Match Official Scholarship

The University of Wolverhampton Sport Scholarship Programme offers performance packages for elite athletes, aspiring coaches, match officials and leaders.

The University of Wolverhampton awards a number of scholarships to aspiring match officials to help improve the quality and quantity of officiating available to students in teams. Working in conjunction with the WLV Sport teams it is an excellent opportunity for students to develop their skills and gain experience whilst at University.

The Match Official Scholarship is an exciting opportunity for current students to challenge themselves, officiating their fellow students and working alongside senior officials. Ideally, candidates will have an NGB Level 1 or 2 or equivalent experience in their chosen sport and be looking to build on this whilst at University. The scholarship is available to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Match Official Scholar Packages and Criteria

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support your chosen sport with match official responsibilities in friendlies and BUCS fixtures
  • Complete match official duties for 3 games and then be paid for any above this number
  • Represent the University & WLV Sport in a positive manner

Skills & Experience Required

  • Be committed to working towards a Level 1 match official qualification in your chosen sport
  • Prior experience in your chosen sport on a volunteer or paid basis
  • Evidence of completing match official duties Regional or Nationally
  • Be willing and able to engage with the programme in its entirety including induction, ongoing training and mentoring meetings

Match Official Support Services

  • Financial award - £200 
  • WLV Gym membership
  • Physiotherapy
  • Workshops
  • Access to coaching CPD

WLV Sport Scholarships are awarded on a case by case basis with priority given to individual’s whose sport features within the British University and Colleges Sport programme, regional or national competition and the potential for elite/international level performance.

To be eligible for a WLV Match Official scholarship:

  • Be committed to working towards or hold a Level 1/Level 2 match official qualification or equivalent in your chosen sport
  • Be enrolled on an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at University of Wolverhampton

The Scholarship Scheme is reviewed annually although the Panel reserves the right to make changes and / or amendments at any time. The Panel also reserves the right to withdraw a Scholarship offer at any time.
