Our approach to postgraduate employability
The majority of our postgraduates tell us that their main reason for studying at postgraduate level is to improve their career prospects. All of our postgraduate courses are designed to give you to tools to make a difference in the workplace which is reflected in our high student employment rates.
The latest student employment results show that 98% of our postgraduates are in work or further training 6 months after graduation with 75% working in graduate level jobs, earning graduate level salaries. Here's what our approach to employability means in practice:
Putting you in touch with business
The University's strong links with regional industry which not only benefit businesses through providing them access to our knowledge and facilities, but also many of our postgraduates. We are one of the top Universities in the country for Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) where a promising graduate works on an industrial placement, helping a business with a strategically important project.
Around 70% of placements lead to paid employment with the organisation as well as providing invaluable experience to help student find other positions. Take a look at some of our KTP success stories.
Giving you an edge in the job market
The University's 98% student employment rate as shown in the latest Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) survey comes as a credit to the hard work of our students and intensive work on behalf to the University to equip students with the tools needed to gain employment or get promoted. New initiatives have included:
1) Enhancing the employability of new graduates with skills development both within the curriculum and through a new University Employability Award.
2) Increasing opportunities for placements to gain vital work experience with regional and national employers.
3) Supporting graduates after they’ve left through training opportunities and updates about job vacancies.
4) Doubling the number of graduate internships offered at the University.
