Visiting Scholar Scheme

The Visiting Scholar Scheme (VSS) within the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Wolverhampton offers opportunities for qualified academics from any institution in the UK or abroad to engage in the University’s scholarly activities for a minimum of one month and a maximum 6 months.

The scheme provides scholars the opportunity to visit the University of Wolverhampton, use its facilities, conduct their own research, undertake collaborative research with other academics in the University, and to network and contribute to teaching in the faculty by presenting guest lectures or faculty seminars.

The University will provide the scholars with access to the university library, access to certain campus parking facilities, email address, ID card that enables access to University staff and student facilities, campus sports facility, access to computer facilities and normally a hot-desk. The visiting scholars will also be assigned a supervisor in their area of expertise.

Eligibility and Application Process

The scheme is open throughout the year and applicants whose research falls into any area of the faculty’s research clusters are invited to apply (see www.wlv.ac.uk/foss) Candidates from Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management backgrounds are also encouraged to apply.

Applicants should either possess a PhD (or its equivalent) or are currently studying toward it. Applicants should also have a track record of publications or evidence of working toward it. Potential candidates should send the following documents to roya.rahimi@wlv.ac.uk

Once we have received these we will make a decision about your application as soon as possible and final acceptance is subject to a successful Skype interview. Bench Fee

Normally, a University Service Fee of £2100 for a six-month visit is payable to the University of Wolverhampton. Visits of periods shorter than six months are considered and are charged at £350 per month. The fee is payable once the application has been approved and should be made before the start date of the Scholar’s visit.
