Access, Outreach and Social Mobility

The Postgraduate Certificate is designed for school careers advisors, charity and outreach workers. As well as teachers, lecturers and educational managers in primary, secondary, further and higher education, with an interest in supporting widening participation. The course is concerned with the development of critical enquiry and reflection in the field of educational access, outreach and the development of professional knowledge and expertise. This course also offers the opportunity for progression onto the MA Education.

  • In collaboration with Causeway Education, the University of Wolverhampton offers a unique opportunity to gain a qualification, at Master’s level, specifically focused on developing critical thinking, knowledge and understanding of the support needs of young people and their post-18 destinations.
  • This 60-credit qualification supports the development of research skills, as well as professional practice. You will be provided with the opportunity to explore what it means to be inclusive and enable good career advice.
  • Through debate, and analysis you will be supported to develop a deeper understanding of disadvantage, social capital and the ideas that influence current practice. We also equip you to explore opportunities for change and improvement at a strategic and personal level within your area.
  • We provide a blended approach to delivery with a mixture of face-to-face events on our Walsall Campus, online workshops and tutorial support.
  • We offer high-quality resources on our learning platform, enabling a flexible approach to your learning that fits in with the demands of work and study.
  • Through face-to-face sessions, we facilitate networking opportunities, access to guest speakers and practical ‘take away’ CPD throughout the year.

We run three 20 credit modules each offering a range of case studies and resources which support the diverse range of disciplines within our target audience.

Each module offers a range of assessment opportunities including portfolios, posters, research proposals, written evaluations.

For delegates, successful completing this PGCert 60 credits can be applied to the full MA Education (180 credits).

Some delegates with prior L7 credits may only need to complete their dissertation.

The University offers a very competitive rate for our Postgraduate certificate of £2,600 for the 60 credits.

  • For delegates successful completing this PGCert, these 60 credits can be transferred and applied to the full MA Education (180 credits)*.

    Some delegates with prior L7 credits may therefore only need to complete their dissertation of 60 credits to complete the MA Education.

7ED058 - Critical Approaches to Education, Outreach and Inclusion (20 credits)

This module supports a deeper understanding of the ideas that influence current practice; policy and organisational change; you will explore what it means to be critical, reflective, evaluate the principles of business improvement and develop ideas for inclusive practice and change management.

 

7ED007 - Education, Research and Development (20 credits) 

A research proposal that supports, future dissertation study on the MA Education or school improvement plan and change management.

 

7ED020 - Developing Professional Practice (20 credits)

This module will support you to critically analyse your strengths and areas for development by using your professional experience and recommended literature to deepen your reflective practice. We will support you to think critically about education and develop your professional attribute's, knowledge, skills and understanding through critical reflection and action so there is an increasingly positive impact on your practice.
