Driving a Greener Future in Tourism
Growing up in Amsterdam nothing interested me most than serving the needs of people. My passion to deliver what people need in life has always been motivated by my positive upbringing from a single mother and my faith in Christ, Jesus. In 2009 after passing my driving licenses, I devoted serving my church as a bus driver for more than 7 years. Aside of my services at church, I was also very much involved in the wellbeing of my community in Amsterdam Southeast. But travelling has always been my greatest passion. My passion to transport people from point A to B was motivated by my church work as a driver. I learnt that every accomplished journey brings travellers a step closer to what they need in life. Conversely, unaccomplished journey deprives happiness. This thought of knowledge enabled me to pursue a travel business – Boateng Travel in 2020 that my transportation services can continue in a sustainable way.
Building my business has always been a challenge. Because unsustainable business is a failed business to me personally. As a result, I incubated my business plans for more than 3 years, just only to acquire knowledge and understand the industry to build a thriving, sustainable and a successful business. These key drivers are also the reason why I want to do something different in the travel and hospitality industry to benefit all stakeholders and future generation. Because the current state of travel and tourism require innovative and rational thinkers, and robust planning for the future. I don’t want to sound that I have all these qualities but studying travel and tourism management at University of Wolverhampton has bring me one step closer. I started studying the course with a vision and a plan for my future. I asked lots of questions to test my hypothesis in class, participated during lectures to solidify my acquired knowledge and practise them in my business. The results of what I did at University of Wolverhampton is the cause of Boateng Travel Podcast rising star.
Boateng travel podcast is the voice of sustainability in the travel and tourism and hospitality industry. My first goal is to work collaboratively with institutions including Universities to unpack reliable sources and fresh updates concerning sustainability in the industry and make it available for stakeholders. Although working with universities will expose travellers and other stakeholders to theoretical knowledge about sustainable travel for example, this is why I also aim to work with organisations like travel companies, Airlines, Airports, DMOs, governmental travel agencies, travel agents, and other key stakeholders influencing the industry to exposed practical knowledge for travellers. Secondly, I also aim to make the platform a trusted source of sustainability to influence policy and decision making across the industry. I believe that the more stakeholders are exposed to vital information, the more sustainable and brighter the future will become for us all.
