Business Bulletin September 2025
Welcome Week at the University of Wolverhampton Business School began with creativity, teamwork, and community spirit. After their course inductions, first-year students took part in a fast-paced 24-hour challenge designed to develop entrepreneurial thinking while supporting a local cause.
Each student group was given £10, generously provided by the Owen Jenkins Trust, connected to Rubery Owen Holdings Limited. Their task: use the money to create a product or service, sell it within 24 hours, and donate the proceeds to Good Shepherd Services CIO, a Wolverhampton-based charity supporting vulnerable individuals. The challenge concluded with presentations where students shared their ideas, sales strategies, lessons learned, and total earnings.
Here’s what some of our students had to say about the experience:
“I really enjoyed it because especially this being my first year it helped me interact with a lot of different people with different backgrounds and get more comfortable with campus.”
“I met new people and I decided to go out of my comfort zone to speak to people and ask them to please make some donations.”
“This kind activity is good to challenge ourselves to give our best in helping charities and also help us to improve some skills that will be worthy in the future.”
Now in its fourth year, this initiative has helped students raise nearly £5,000 for local charities. Well done to all our fantastic students!
The second half of welcome week saw the return of our second and third students to campus, providing a great opportunity to reflect on the previous year and start putting in plans for the year ahead. Employability was very much at the forefront of our discussions, and it was great to hear how passionate our students were about their future aspirations.
Timetabled classes have now officially begun, and it has been fantastic to see so many new and familiar faces around campus. We are looking forward to getting to know all our new cohorts over the next few months and beyond, and we will no doubt be sharing some great stuff from inside our classrooms soon!
But for now, here are some pictures from Welcome Week and the first weeks of September!
