October Highlights from around the Business School

Business and Tourism Management, and International Hospitality Management

October has been a vibrant and inspiring month for our Business and Tourism Management and International Hospitality Management students! From cultural celebrations and guest speakers to recruitment events and industry visits, our students have embraced every opportunity to learn, connect, and grow. Here’s a look back at everything we’ve been up to this month.

Celebrating Dashain & Tihar

Students came together to celebrate two of Nepal’s most beloved festivals — Dashain and Tihar — with an evening of Deusi–Bhailo, Diyo lighting, and authentic Nepali dishes. The Luna Lounge was filled with joy, lights, and laughter as we shared this vibrant cultural experience together.

@wlvcareers Annual Recruitment Fair

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for the Annual Recruitment Fair at our new venue, @thehallswolverhampton! Over 50 employers connected with more than 1,500 students, providing invaluable insights and opportunities to explore exciting future career paths.

Virtual Guest Speaker Session – Four Points by Sheraton Edinburgh

We were delighted to welcome Rene and Donna from Four Points by Sheraton Edinburgh for an insightful virtual guest session. Students gained fantastic perspectives on hotel operations — from marketing and technology to departmental coordination and key business platforms.

Industry Visit – Grand Station

A huge thank you to Danny and the team at Grand Station for welcoming our students for an inspiring behind-the-scenes tour! Students enjoyed exploring the stunning venue and learning more about the incredible events hosted there.

It’s been an incredible month full of learning, networking, and cultural celebration. We’re so proud of our students for their enthusiasm, professionalism, and curiosity — and we can’t wait to see what next month brings!

Marketing

We extend our sincere thanks to Simon Dodd, Head of Retail at @dudleybuildingsociety, for briefing our master's students and presenting them with a dynamic marketing challenge. The session offered valuable real-world insights that left students inspired and eager to develop their ideas.

We also enjoyed an exciting visit to the Annual Recruitment Fair, hosted for the first time at the Halls, which provided excellent networking opportunities. Additionally, students benefited from an engaging session with the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), where they explored the advantages of our CIM-accredited programmes and gained guidance on building a successful marketing career.

To round off a vibrant series of events, the Marketing Research Society delivered their University virtual roadshow to our level 5 students, enriching their learning experience on the marketing research module.

Business and Human Resources Management

October has been an enriching month for our Business and HRM course, filled with hands-on learning, inspiring conversations, and community-building moments.

Student Leadership in Action

We kicked off the month by seeking to appoint course representatives across all levels of study. These student leaders play a vital role in shaping the academic experience and ensuring student voices are heard. Massive well done to all our Course Reps; we’re excited to have you on board!

Insights from Industry

Our students had the pleasure of welcoming guest speaker Mizgan Manzoor from the City of Wolverhampton Council. Her session on recruitment and retention gave students a real-world perspective on workforce challenges.

Workforce Planning with LEGO

Always a classroom favourite, LEGO made a return as students explored the concept of workforce planning through creative, hands-on activities that brought theory to life.

Treasure Hunt Challenge

Level 4 students embarked on a treasure hunt around the Business School to uncover professional standards. Their mission culminated in the creation of a life-size CIPD Profession Map; an impressive visual tool for deeper analysis and discussion.

Exploring Professional Identity

We also delved into the fascinating world of psychometric and behavioural testing, encouraging students to reflect on their professional identities and consider how they show up in the workplace.

Welcoming Future Students

It wasn’t just our current students keeping busy; staff hosted a vibrant Open Day, welcoming prospective students and showcasing the exciting opportunities available within our programmes and wider student community.
