Festival of Britain Season 

Celebrating the Festival and its Legacy in the Black Country

Artsfest Online and the Black Country Studies Centre are pleased to present a series of events commemorating the 70 years anniversary of the Festival and its impact in the Black Country. The season opened in May with lectures introducing the Festival, its distinctive look and the people behind the iconic aesthetic. In June, July and August, we've explored how the Festival was celebrated here in the Black Country and the design legacy it left in the region. 

Get a Taste of the Festival at BCLM
From 17th May, the Black Country Living Museum’s Folkes Park is hosting the Festival of the Black Country – a mini celebration of the 1951 Festival of Britain. Alongside a display of Black Country-made 1950s kitchen and homewares, there will be a cookery demonstration based on the Festival Fare cookery competition and the regional winner, Mrs Betty Morris. Black Country Living Museum (BCLM) and the University of Wolverhampton have much more in common than geographical location. Both institutions strive to raise aspirations and educational attainment by engaging individuals, families and schools across the Black Country, making learning accessible, informative and fun. Together, we have worked for a number of years on different initiatives to achieve our shared vision.

Artsfest 2021

This year marks the seventh year of Artsfest hosted by the university. Traditionally we join with cultural venues across the region to programme a variety of events including live performances, workshops, theatre shows, music, poetry, art exhibitions, and lots more to get involved with. 

We invite an eclectic range of new and established artists both locally and further afield, to use Artsfest as a platform to enhance their careers. This is something that we are proud to support and will endeavour to do in the future, using Artsfest as a vehicle to continue to bring you the very best this region has to offer.
