Black Country Medical School coming soon

The Black Country Medical School (BCMS) at University of Wolverhampton has been created to provide a medical education provision in the West Midlands with the core purpose of serving the local community.

The university is an important provider of key workers in the Black Country, including nurses, midwives, paramedics and social workers. The addition of delivering medical education is a natural extension of our commitment to supporting the workforce needs of the NHS, which in turn will serve the local population.

By training future generations of competent and innovative practitioners, we can contribute to keeping our population healthy and to having long, enjoyable and productive lives. The school’s research will also advance medical knowledge in a dynamic, supportive and collaborative environment.

The Black Country Medical School also benefits from close collaborations with the local community, Black Country Integrated Care Board (ICB), NHS Trusts partners, general practitioners and other healthcare providers.

Core values

Respect and compassion are at the heart of our medical school, ensuring that the future doctors we train will one day serve their diverse communities with care and empathy.

We strive for the highest standards in medical training, research, and clinical practice, to produce skilled healthcare professionals who prioritise the unique clinical needs of each patient.

Our school embraces new medical technologies, teaching methods, and research opportunities to advance healthcare solutions, particularly in underserved and underrepresented areas.

We are committed to reducing health disparities in the Black Country and beyond, striving for fairness in all our decisions and actions, especially those involving selection, mentoring, and treatment.

We collaborate with healthcare providers and communities both near and far, to ensure that our education and research has a powerful positive impact across society.

Our courses prepare students to navigate the challenges of modern medicine with adaptability, problem-solving skills, and a lifelong commitment to learning.
