A significant proportion of government funded research operates through Research Councils UK (RCUK) with the majority of grant-making devolved to the disciplinary research councils. RCUK’ s core aim is to ensure the UK is “the best place in the world to do research, innovate and grow business”.

Through the work of the seven research councils collectively invest more than £3 billion per year to meet tomorrow’s challenges by:

  • Shaping a world-leading research base with strength across disciplines
  • Accelerating innovation and impact from this excellent research base
  • Collaborating and co-investing with partners
  • Driving new multidisciplinary research programmes
  • Working together as a collective to maximise impact and further drive efficiency.
