My background is in education. I was a secondary school teacher and SENCo, plus a decade or so of experience of living with a debilitating long-term medical condition. As a volunteer tutor and assessor for the Chronic Disease Self-Management Programme in the community and later facilitator for the Department of Health’s online Expert Patient Programme, I have been privileged to gain a much broader insight into issues affecting a wider range of patients and carers. Aging parents, a new role in complementary health as an EFT (Tapping) Practitioner, and active participation as a service user in the work of the Faculty of Education, Health and Wellbeing here at Wolverhampton all provide opportunities to understand and influence current health issues for good. Likewise, as one of the RESULT team, it is great to be in a position to contribute to research with a view to making a positive difference to the health care of the future.
