University professor prepares to run virtual marathon

11/09/2020

A University of Wolverhampton professor is preparing to complete the virtual London Marathon to raise money for charity.

Professor Tracey Devonport is raising funds for Get Kids Going, a charity which focuses on helping disabled children and young people to access sport by providing specially built sports wheelchairs and also manual wheelchairs for children to use every day; at home, at school, and to enable them to play with friends.

Tracey said: “I know from personal and professional experience the many benefits that participation in sport can bring to children and young people.

“For children and young people with a disability access to these opportunities can be problematic, or impossible even, because they don't have access to the right equipment.

“Also, since COVID-19, UK charities are really struggling. The cost of a bespoke sports wheelchair is around £4,000 and a lightweight manual wheelchair around £3,000.

“Any donations are gratefully received. There are children out there for whom this will make a real difference.”
