Launch of Varsity Sport Festival 2025

The University of Wolverhampton, University College Birmingham, and Birmingham Newman University are excited to announce the launch of a new Varsity Sport Festival on Wednesday 2 April at the University of Wolverhampton, Sport Centre, Walsall Campus.

The universities have united under a common vision to establish a competitive and social sport varsity, with the primary goal to enhance the visibility of sport and physical activity, increase student engagement, and sense of belonging.

The event will offer competitive fixtures in a range of sports including Women’s Football and Mixed Badminton pairs but will also include opportunities for students to participate in other sports such as Dodgeball and Pickleball. In the latter sports we aim for our students to join together to form new teams and compete in a new sport, with the main objective for the students to have fun.

Natalie Gould, Sport Performance and Development Manager, “Following the success of the Varsity Sport Festival last year which saw over 250 students from the three universities, we are excited to be announcing the date for 2025.

The Varsity Sport Festival allows us to continue our relationship with University College Birmingham and Birmingham Newman University to offer our students further opportunities to be active whilst studying at the university. This event will allow us to build on the strength in our sports clubs and student community, bring the students from three institutions together to celebrate being active and meet new people in the local area.

This year we are focussing on developing the event to be student led to provide opportunities for student placements in a range of areas including; first aid, sport therapy, event management and officiating.”

We encourage students and staff to come along and show your support! Varsity has its own brand of unique tension, excitement, and atmosphere. Its where sporting rivalries battle it out in the ultimate showdown.
