Graphic Design Student’s Work Chosen to Represent New Curriculum Vision

Hannah Jones, a final-year BA (Hons) Graphic Design student at the University of Wolverhampton, has had her work selected to represent the University’s new Curriculum Framework - a major project shaping the future of learning at Wolverhampton.

Her vibrant infographic design, praised for its bold colours, clarity, and symbolic star-like shape, was chosen from a competitive shortlist to feature on the front cover of the framework document. The design reflects student creativity and ambition, aligning with the University’s vision for inclusive and engaging education.

Hannah is also one of the featured designers at the School of Creative Industries’ Degree Show 2025.

Helen Ordidge, Business Partner for the Curriculum Framework project, commented:

“We were keen to engage students in this activity. Co-creation and fostering a sense of belonging is central to what we do as a university.

We want our students to feel included and have ownership, whether that’s through feedback opportunities or contributing directly to the formation of plans and designs.

Hannah’s design stood out for being vibrant, accessible, and reflective of the framework’s core values. One panel member noted the star shape and said, ‘We want all our students to shine bright like a star.’”

Reflecting on her achievement, Hannah said:

“It was amazing to be chosen. There was so much great work from my classmates, so it really meant a lot.”

This project marked Hannah’s first major infographic since her first year, and she embraced the challenge: “It reminded me that there’s still room for creativity, even in structured design.”

The new Curriculum Framework is part of the university’s long-term vision (Strategy 2035: Student Success) to make learning more engaging, inclusive, and future-focused.

Now 31, Hannah discovered her passion for graphic design during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I had a young son, and work just wasn’t working, and I ended up getting furloughed,” she explained. “I always wanted a certain style of alternative t-shirt design that I couldn’t find, so I thought, ‘I can do that myself.’”

That spark led to a small business venture and ultimately to university.
“It just felt so natural—like something I was always meant to do, even before I knew I could.”

Hannah’s journey through the course has been marked by success, including winning design briefs that led to placement roles.

The project was part of a live brief set by the university and integrated into the Graphic Design course. “We’ve had loads of real-world opportunities,” she said. “From working with Jaguar Land Rover to designing for local businesses, these experiences have helped me grow as a designer.”

She credits the supportive environment of the School of Creative Industries for making her experience so rewarding: “The people here have been the best part, they’re so encouraging and lovely.”  

After graduating this summer, Hannah aspires to joining a dynamic design agency to gain further experience, whilst continuing to grow her freelance work.
