Students win big with football coaching trip to the USA

Twelve students from the University of Wolverhampton’s BSc (Hons) Football Coaching and Performance course have crossed the Atlantic to combine learning with earning, coaching soccer across the United States.
The initiative, delivered in partnership with Challenger Sports, organisers of soccer camps across North America, gives students the opportunity to apply their coaching skills in real-world settings, from Miami to Memphis and beyond.
Russel Smith, Lecturer in Football Coaching, said:
“Our students benefit from a unique opportunity to get paid while gaining hands-on coaching experience and travelling across the USA.
“Thanks to support from the University’s Turing Scheme, which provides financial assistance and help with visas and travel, this experience is accessible to every student on the course.”
Beyond football, the programme offers a rich cultural exchange. Students live with host families, explore diverse regions of the U.S., and develop essential life and leadership skills.
“This experience challenges students to lead, organise, and adapt; skills that are vital for both personal and professional growth,” Russel added.
