Alumnus Theo Johnson stars in BBC’s Netball Aid for Children in Need
University of Wolverhampton alumnus Theo Johnson took to the court for a great cause, participating in the BBC’s Netball Aid for Children in Need 2025. The celebrity netball match, broadcast as part of the annual fundraising campaign, saw Theo play for the winning side, Team Pudsey, in an event that combined sport, entertainment, and philanthropy.
Theo, who graduated in 2024 with a BA (Hons) in Drama, is widely known as a BBC 1Xtra presenter and filmmaker. His involvement in Children in Need is not new, he has supported the charity in previous years, continuing his commitment to making a positive impact.
The star-studded game featured a host of well-known personalities and even included a Guinness World Record attempt for the most netball goals scored in a set time, adding an extra layer of excitement to the evening. Theo's energy and enthusiasm helped his team secure victory while raising vital funds for disadvantaged children and young people across the UK.
Joining Theo on court was Denise Lewis OBE, who was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Letters in Sports Studies in 2014. The Olympic gold medallist brought her sporting prowess to the event, further highlighting the strong connection between the University and high-profile figures in sport and media.
Speaking about the experience, Theo expressed his pride in supporting such an important cause: “Children in Need has always been close to my heart, and being part of Netball Aid was an incredible way to give back while having fun.”
