CLASS OF 2022: Law graduate supports victims of human trafficking
A graduate from the University of Wolverhampton is making a positive impact to the lives of human trafficking victims, working with The Salvation Army.
Originally from Brazil, Marcos Ianicelli Menegon moved to the UK twelve years ago and applied to the University to pursue a career in Law.
At the age of 33, Marcos has graduated from Wolverhampton Law School achieving a 2:1 in LLB (Hons) Law.
The law degree provides a qualifying law degree enabling successful to prepare for the Bar Professional Training Course (Barrister) and to provide preparatory legal education for those wishing to qualify as solicitors.
During his time at University, Marcos had the opportunity to get hands-on working experience in a range of different areas including paralegal work, providing legal advice.
Marcos said: “Graduating today is like a dream come true. After two years studying through the pandemic, it seemed impossible to think of this day coming. But now it’s here, I can’t explain how it feels to be celebrating.
“I’ve loved my time here; the lecturers have been very supportive throughout and I’ve gained lots of valuable experience – both in the classroom and on work placements.
“When I first joined the University, my first concern was that I was a mature student, and I didn’t know how I would be able to succeed against young people. But it soon became clear that it doesn’t matter how old you are, as long as you do your best, take advantage of the opportunities on offer, you will stand the best chance possible in achieving your dreams.”
Marcos is now studying part-time for his Masters, to train as a solicitor and hopes to progress to a PhD to continue his research and make a positive impact to support victims of human trafficking.
The University’s graduation ceremonies take place at the Grand Theatre, Wolverhampton, from Monday 5 September until Saturday 10 September 2022.
Graduates are encouraged to keep in touch with the Alumni team and take advantage of a range of benefits and support on offer to them including a discount for Postgraduate study and opportunities to benefit from mentoring, volunteering and career advice.
