Reflecting on Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

A sports professor at the University of Wolverhampton hosts sports science event reflecting on Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

In collaboration between BASES (British Association of Sport and Exercise Science) and the EIS (English Institute of Sport) Dr Ross Cloak, Associate Professor in the School of Sport at the University of Wolverhampton organised a multi-disciplinary event reflecting on Olympians ‘Delivering high performance in the middle of a world pandemic.’

Over one hundred 100 sports enthusiasts across the world as well as the University’s postgraduate sport students attended the virtual event as key speakers reflected on their preparations and experiences on the ground at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Key speakers included Dr Briar Rudsits from Great Britain Cycling Team, Dr Andy Shaw from British Athletics Dr Julia Wells and Dr Andy Hill from English Institute of Sport and Claire Williams from British Gymnastics who showcased all the great work that had gone into preparing athletes to perform at their best.

“We had some fantastic speakers to provide a real insight to the Olympic Games during the pandemic.

“It was great to see so many attendees over different parts of the world in attendance as well as our students who have each benefitted from the knowledge, expertise and experience shared at the event.

“The event was made possible due to the excellent work of the BASES sport and performance division team which it is a privilege to be a part of.

“We have a number of events coming up in what will be a busy year for sport with the Commonwealth Games and World Cup.

“The University’s commitment to supporting staff working with external professional bodies adds value to our courses as well as our knowledge exchange goals.”
