University continues its support of Black Country Business Festival

The University of Wolverhampton is a partner of the Black Country Business Festival for the third year in a row.

The annual festival of business events, which runs across the whole Black Country region, was postponed in May and is rescheduled to get underway on Monday 5 October. This year it sees around 100 free events taking place over its nine-day duration.

Following on from last year’s success, the University will be providing a number of events on Zoom covering a range of topics which range from examining the advantages and disadvantages of developing brown field land right through to intellectual property protection on innovations and the business of cyber protection.

On the University’s partnership with the Black Country Business Festival Richard Nicklin, Deputy Director for Business Engagement said: “We are delighted to be continuing our relationship with the Black Country Business Festival.

“The University prides itself as being a place of opportunity for students, staff and businesses that we engage with; developing individuals who are entrepreneurial, eminently employable and well-connected.

“We are pleased to be playing an active part in the business festival again this year, especially with it being in a year that has been incredibly challenging for many of the region’s businesses.”

One of the events being hosted by the University is Protecting your business against cyber threats. In this workshop, Professor of Cyber Security and Director of the Wolverhampton Cyber Research Institute Prashant Pillai unmasks the cyber challenges faced by businesses by sharing trends in cyber security threats and the current state-of-the-art approaches to boost businesses readiness. 

The University of Wolverhampton’s Racing Team (UWR), who compete in the F3 Cup and the Morgan Challenge, will be hosting the session The Business of Winning.

Other sessions being run by the University include: ‘Business Engagement – Energy & Resource Efficiency Projects; The Workplace - how can we help you to recruit Graduate talent?; Changes to Legal Education and Routes to Qualification; Working towards a healthier workforce; Innovative Solutions to the Housing Crisis – in the Future of Construction is Digital event; Intellectual Property Protection for Innovations; Business Model Automation; and Brownfield: Money Generator or Money Pit?

Events are all free to attend but tickets must be booked in advance through the website. The Festival was initiated by the Black Country Chamber of Commerce three years ago.
