Financial situation update

13/07/2020

In response to recent media stories about the financial position of universities in the UK, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Geoff Layer, said:

“The University of Wolverhampton is in a financially stable position. Demand for our courses continues to grow - our home undergraduate applications are up and we have seen increases in home postgraduate applications and our international applications. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority and we are working hard to prepare our campuses for the return of students in September. This involves preparing for the managed reopening of facilities with social distancing measures in place and delivering our teaching via ‘blended learning’ which consists of a mixture of digital learning and face-to-face delivery.

“We are also continuing with major projects such as our Springfield Campus in Wolverhampton and the Cyber Quarter - Midlands Centre for Cyber Security in Hereford which will have a significant impact on rejuvenating the local economy and in closing the skills gap.

“The higher education sector as a whole is facing unprecedented challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the current economic climate. These include student recruitment for the next academic year, the impact of social distancing on teaching and international travel restrictions. We are planning ahead to ensure the University is prepared to tackle these challenges, with the student experience right at the heart of everything we do.”
