Applications encouraged for climate friendly business ideas

The University of Wolverhampton’s Built Environment Climate Change Innovations (BECCI) project has launched a new Innovation Incubator programme - supporting 12 climate friendly business ideas over six months.

The UK government funded incubator programme, designed to support and nurture the development of new ideas and new enterprises with low carbon innovation at their heart, is now open for applications.

The BECCI Innovation Incubator programme aims to find, foster and set-free business ideas that deliver a step change in the sustainability of the built environment, with a primary focus on climate change and buildings.

The programme supports early-stage entrepreneurs, providing them with the skills, mentoring and networking opportunities to turn their ideas into viable businesses.

Applications are invited from individuals at any stage of their working life, who can demonstrate entrepreneurial flair and who are committed to progressing their idea. There are no cost implications for people who want to apply.

Richard Davies MBE, BECCI Knowledge Transfer Manager, leading the creation of the Incubator, said “In these unprecedented times we must build back better and create the new normal - where normal is low carbon, smart and vibrant. We can’t change things for the better standing alone. We need new ideas, new innovations, and new ways of working together.”

BECCI is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and offers fully funded support to develop products and processes that reduce carbon emissions. To help achieve the government’s “net zero” carbon dioxide emissions 2050 goal, BECCI provides support in areas such as insulation, building fabric, ventilation, heating and cooling controls, battery storage and smart grid.
