Three fine art prizes awarded by artist society

17/09/2019

Three graduates from the University of Wolverhampton School of Art have been awarded prizes by the Wolverhampton Society of Artists.

The Wolverhampton Society of Artists (WSA) is an established group of professional and amateur artists who work in a wide range of styles and media with artists that are proactive locally, nationally and internationally.

The Fine Art degree students, Matthew Garvin, Tariq Evans and Edward Kemshell-Malorny, were presented with a cheque for £50 each alongside Tashcen Reference Books on Hopper, Picasso and Kandinsky.

Keith Oram, President of WSA, presented the graduates with their prizes at the School of Art graduation ceremony at The Grand Theatre.

He said: "WSA is celebrating its 100 year anniversary this year and it's our aim to ensure that we attract new and exciting artists to the group.

"We actually gave out prizes 100 years ago to students in the Wolverhampton School of Art and it's wonderful to be resurrecting this practice, hopefully inspiring more young people to pursue art and engage in the long term with our group."

Maggie Ayliffe, Head of the Wolverhampton School of Art, said: "We work with lots of art based groups and companies that support our students and graduates through the prize awards schemes during graduation.

"It's wonderful for students to be recognised for their efforts, achievements and talents while they are studying with us and we hope that this is the beginning of a long-standing relationship with WSA."

Tariq Evans, one of the winning students, said: "Being an art student can be difficult since linear paths can be hard to find in creative fields, with positive achievements feeling few and far between.  But, there are a few moments where you can see progress or development because you are able to recognise them in yourself or very kindly, others notice for you.  Which is why I would like to thank WSA for seeing what you see in me, and I humbly and respectfully appreciate their recognition award."

For anyone who already has their results, applications can now be made through the Clearing website, calling the HOTLINE on 01902 518585 or contacting us through our Social Media channels on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram.  Anyone interested in studying at the Wolverhampton School of Art should register for the next Open Day on Saturday 12th October 2019.
