7 local highlights you can visit FOR FREE this September!

Every year in September, beautiful and unusual sites across the country throw open their doors to celebrate their heritage, community and history as part of Heritage Open Days (13-22 September 2019).

It's your chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences � and it�s all FREE.

You can head to their website to see everything that�s on offer, but here we run down some top attractions you'd usually have to pay for.

Moseley Old Hall

Saving: £9.50+

If history is your thing, discover the Home that Saved a King: Moseley Old Hall, on Saturday 14^th September. You can try wool washing and spinning, butter making, and a range of games - something for the whole family.

Museum of the Jewellery Quarter

Saving: £7

If you appreciate fine craft and want to see how the former Smith & Pepper jewellery factory looked when they locked up and left in 1981, this is your chance. If you can't make it to the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter on Saturday 14^th September, visit another time and as a student you still get a reduction, with tickets £5.

Birmingham Botanical Gardens

Saving: £6.75+

If you're someone who appreciates a bit of greenery, head to Birmingham Botanical Gardens on Sunday 15^th September to explore its stunning glasshouses, as well as fifteen acres of beautiful landscaped gardens, for free!

Aldridge Transport Museum

Saving: £3

Who doesn't love a vintage bus?! Hop on board to Aldridge Transport Museum on the weekend of 21^st-22^nd September and take a look around this tiny museum for free - though it won't break the bank if you go at any other time!

Wightwick Manor

Saving: £12+

If you love arts and crafts, the work of William Morris, or just a beautiful house and garden, head to Wightwick Manor on the weekend of 21^st-22^nd  September and join in their 1902 Coronation Garden Party.

Broseley Pipeworks

Saving: £5.95

Usually accessible as part of the Ironbridge Gorge Museums, head to Broseley Pipe Museum on Sunday 22^nd September 2019 and you can have a guided tour, as well as get closer to the architecture and enjoy pipe-making demonstrations.

St Bartholomew's Church, Tong

Saving: £5+

Visit 'The Westminster Abbey of the Midlands' in Tong between Friday 13^th and Sunday 22^nd September to explore this Gothic masterpiece and the stories it has to tell since its dedication in 1410: tombs, effigies, towers and Shakespeare! Entrance is free, but tours are usually charged.
