Award winning author brings her big read to the University

Award winning author, Rachel Joyce, is visiting the University of Wolverhampton as part of the Big Read campaign.

Rachel Joyce, the winning author of The Big Read 2019, is visiting the University to talk about her bestselling novel The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry. The free event is open to all students and staff, as well as members of the public.

The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry was shortlisted for the Commonwealth Book prize and longlisted for the Man Booker Prize. Rachel was awarded the Specsavers National Book Awards ‘New Writer of the Year’ in December 2012 and shortlisted for the ‘UK Author of the Year’ 2014.

Rachel will be visiting the University’s City Campus on Thursday 7^th November between 1.00 pm and 2.30 pm with the talk taking place in the Harrison Library, Ambika Paul Building at City Campus. 

Students studying for Faculty of Science and Engineering courses were sent a copy of Rachel’s book as part of the Big Read campaign – an initiative created by Kingston University as a way of making students feel welcome.

Since 2015, Kingston University has sent a book to every undergraduate and postgraduate student to ensure that new arrivals feel welcome before they arrive.

The Big Read campaign was inspired by similar projects in the United States that showed the benefits of creating a community through shared reading before students arrived at an institution, helping them to settle in to their new environment.

Tickets are free but registration is required. Please book early to ensure you get a seat and bring your book along for signing.
