University launches new look website

The University of Wolverhampton has launched a new website after investing in a major redesign project – and a Computer Science graduate has been key to helping switch over to the new site.

Granite Digital, one of Ireland’s leading digital agencies who focus on customer web applications development and search engine marketing, were chosen to deliver the project in 2018 and they appointed a University graduate intern to assist on the website development project.

Gurcharan Rai, who graduated with a Computer Science degree in September, is based in the External Relations team at City Campus in Wolverhampton and is helping with content and web requests on the new site, working with the University web team as well as Granite to gain vital work experience.

The website, which has a new look and focuses on an enhanced customer journey, has been designed to boost student recruitment as well as providing more digital content to improve the student experience.

David Allen, Digital and Creative Services Manager in External Relations at the University, said: “We held several workshops with a wide range of stakeholders including Sixth Formers at local schools, current students, local businesses, graduates and staff from each of our Faculties

“Everyone involved in the project helped to identify and prioritise information which will help potential students on their journey towards studying at or engaging with us.

“We wanted to involve a graduate intern in this key University project as it’s a great experience for them and they will help to shape the recruitment journey of our future students.”

Gurcharan said: “This is a fantastic role, and everyone I am working with is lovely. I am enjoying interacting with people, so I hope to develop my project management skills further in this position.”

Stakeholder feedback suggested less text and prospective students wanted to learn about more than courses and subject matter – they also wanted to find out about who would be teaching them.”

Alan Henley, Head of Operations at Granite Digital, said: “Granite Digital kicked off the website redesign with University of Wolverhampton in December 2018. The requirements were clear and ambitious from the start. A best in class, mobile first, user centric design that would help the university achieve their objectives.

“The communication and direction from both the working group and steering group were a key factor in the final site and no challenge was left on the table. We are glad to see that the end result has lived up to expectations thanks to the hard work from both teams.
