07/01/2019

The University of Wolverhampton’s School of Engineering Race Team (UWR) is gearing up for the Autosport International 2019 - the largest car racing show in Europe.

Staff and students will be on hand to give advice and guidance to anyone interested in studying engineering at the University’s Telford Innovation Campus – and it’s hoping to drive up interest in its range of courses including Motorsport, Mechanical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Automotive, Aerospace and Chemical Engineering.

The motorsport event will be held at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, from Thursday 10th until Sunday 13th January 2019, catering for industry professionals and motorsport fans.

UWR works closely with industrial partners and sponsors and this event is part of an industry collaboration with Beta Tools, Lenovo, My Workwear and Profix Access who have supplied equipment and clothing to support UWR at the show - part of their ongoing sponsorship of the team.

Autosport International is the largest dedicated Motorsport show in Europe and brings together top motor racing teams from all levels of motorsport including Formula 1. Over 100,000 people are expected to come to the event over the 4 days.

Syed Hasan, Head of the School of Engineering at the University, said: “We’re really excited to have a presence at this premier pre-season motorsport event which brings together the world of motorsport before the race season starts.

“Students from the School of Engineering will be showing off the professional skills they have gained as part of their studies.

“In previous years the team has received great accolades from top teams for their professionalism and commitment to motorsport, planting the seeds for future employment with team members finding work with Mercedes F1, Aston Martin and Jaguar Land Rover amongst others.”

The University has invested £10 million in transforming the engineering facilities at Telford, including creating new workshops with two car bays, benches and professional tools to support the students’ work. Visitors to the show can find the UWR Engineering team on Stand 3120 or anyone interested in studying Engineering at the University should register for the next Open Day on Saturday 2nd February 2019.
