An art exhibition celebrating 100 years of women working in the law profession is to be showcased at the University of Wolverhampton.

The exhibition is on loan from the First 100 Years project.

The exhibit will be on display in the University’s mock courtroom within the Mary Seacole Building in Wolverhampton from 15 April – 30 April 2019.

It is 100 years since the 1919 Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act, which allowed women in the UK to enter the legal profession and qualify as barristers or solicitors.

And as part of events to mark the centenary, the University will be hosting a Celebrating Women in Law event with the West Midlands Legal Doctoral Network (WMLDN) on Tuesday, 30 April 2019.

The conference in the Lord Swraj Paul Building will include panel events around the theme of female voices in the Law and researchers will present their areas of expertise through the lens of women in their respective fields.

There will also be an in conversation event featuring commissioning editors from law publishers.

Lecturer in Law Dr Metka Potocnik said: “We are looking forward to welcoming people within the law profession and academics to this event to celebrate 100 years of women in law.

“The art exhibition marks the key milestones throughout the last 100 years of women in law and visitors to our event will be able to visit this during the day.”

In October, the Law School is publishing a special edition of the Wolverhampton Law Journal to commemorate and consider legal landmarks relevant to the theme.
