Honour for Black Country businessman

A prominent figure in the Black Country manufacturing industry has been honoured by the University of Wolverhampton.

An Honorary Fellowship was presented to Stuart Squire at a graduation ceremony on Friday, 21 September 2018.

The award was made in recognition of Stuart’s contribution to the University through the Institute of Directors and Business School mentoring scheme.

Stuart, who is an alumnus of the University, said: “I am honoured to receive this award. The mentoring scheme improves the students employability and I am proud to be part of it.”

Stuart spent the majority of his career working for specialist manufacturing company Static Systems Group Plc in the Black Country, supplying complex communication and alarm systems into the health sector both in the UK and overseas.

Before retirement, for 15 years Stuart held the key position as operations director – after having started in the drawing office as a trainee.

For 15 years, he was an active member of the Confederation of Construction Specialists. He was a member of the Institute of Directors for 25 years, and in 2001 became chartered director – the highest mark of professional excellence that can be awarded by the Institute.

Stuart’s commitment to lifelong learning saw him continue with his studies throughout his employment. A graduate of the University of Wolverhampton, Stuart has played a key role in setting up a very successful Student Mentoring Programme, which has operated in the University’s Business School for the last eight years.

Honorary awards are presented by the University of Wolverhampton to people who have made a significant contribution to their field of expertise.

The University’s graduation ceremonies take place at the Grand Theatre, Wolverhampton, from Thursday, 13 September to Friday, 21 September 2018.
