Students served up advice by leading housing organisation

03/05/2018

University of Wolverhampton Business School students were served up advice by one of the UKs leading home assistance providers recently.

Twenty students working towards a degree in Marketing Management benefited from working with Homeserve, using them as a case study to look at marketing performance measures.

HomeServe provide home emergency and repair services for 7.8m homes, with £785m sales and 5000 staff. The company employs graduates and have worked with postgraduate marketing students in the past.

The students were given an overview of Homeserve as a business and were tasked with looking at how it could improve its marketing techniques.

Lucy Bond, Marketing Management student in the University of Wolverhampton Business School, said:  “This real-life project tasked us with looking at how Homeserve communicates with its stakeholders and, as part of our course, we had to look at the way they use direct mail, digital channels and how they run their call centres.

“It’s been a really interesting exercise and helped us with our studies enormously.  It’s also great to think that students are advising the board of a leading business on the use of the latest digital and analytical techniques, measuring qualitative and quantitative data as well as calculating the return on investment.”

Andrew Jones, Senior Customer Strategy & Targeting Manager Homeserve, said:  “We’re a business that’s very keen on community involvement and as the University is local to us, and we’ve already employed graduates from here, it’s really important to connect with future employees as well as at the same time offering hands-on opportunities which will enhance students’ learning. We’ve been open to new ideas throughout the brief and are looking forward to seeing what the students present.”

Roy Broad, Lecturer in Marketing at the University of Wolverhampton Business School, said: “This is a new kind of marketing module.  It’s really important for us to bridge the gap between what students are learning at University and what happens in the real world.  It’s very beneficial to have companies like Homeserve working with us, providing real case studies for students to work on as part of their assignments.  The students thoroughly enjoy the process and the results speak for themselves.”

Anyone interested in studying Marketing Management at the University should register for the next Open Day on Saturday 16th June 2018.
