University hosts prestigious photography exhibition

21/06/2018

The University of Wolverhampton is hosting an exhibition and lecture by world renowned photographer, Dieter Blum, as part of its Artsfest celebrations.

Working in the fields of both applied and fine art photography, Dieter Blum is a highly regarded photographer from Germany. He was awarded the Medaille Vermeil of the Paris based Societe Arts-Sciences-Lettres in 2015 in recognition of his career which has spanned more than 50 years.

The exhibition, organised by the Wolverhampton School of Art’s Photography department – XTC: Dance and Eros: Selected Photographs 1994-1998 – is being held in the George Wallis Building, Wolverhampton City Campus until 25th August 2018.

Dr Euripides Altintzoglou, Senior Lecturer in Fine Art and Photography at the University, said: “It is a real privilege to be exhibiting the work of an internationally recognised photographer in Wolverhampton.

“From his beginnings in commercial photography, he was the only non-American to participate in the iconic Marlboro advertising campaign. The common trait in all of Dieter Blum’s work is the intensity of the moment, captured and transformed into images which often acquire monumental and almost sculptural qualities.”

The FREE lecture, Dieter Blum in conversation: a pragmatist at work, is taking place on Tuesday 26th June between 5.00 pm and 7.00 pm in MK045, George Wallis Building at the University of School of Art.  In conversation with Dr Renate Wiehager, Curator and Head of the Daimler Art Collection, Stuttgart/Berlin, the lecture will give insights into Dieter Blum’s working practice and creative personality.  Book your place.
