Academic makes contribution to US College Board

10/07/2018

A University of Wolverhampton academic was selected to participate in a global education programme in the United States recently.

Dr Patricia Davies, Senior Lecturer in the School of Mathematics and Computer Science, was selected to participate in the College Board’s Annual Advanced Placement Computer Science Programme (AP) review.

The College Board is a mission-driven not-for-profit organisation with regional offices based in America that connects students to college success and opportunity.

The AP enables students to pursue college level studies with the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement or both, while they are still at high school.

Dr Davies said:  “Every year, Advanced Placement education staff travel to the US from around the world to evaluate and score the free-response sections of the AP exams.

“Through the AP courses in 38 subjects, each culminating in a rigorous exam, students learn how to analyse complex problems and construct solid arguments – skills that prepare them for college and beyond.

“It is a real privilege to be invited along to contribute to this process along with other world-leading educators.”

Trevor Packer, Senior Vice-President at the AP and Instruction at the College Board, said: “This staff exchange fosters professionalism, allows for the exchange of ideas and strengthens the commitment to students and teaching.

“AP Readers are high school and college educators who represent many of the world’s leading academic institutions and draws upon the talents of some of the finest teachers and professors that the world has to offer.

“We are very grateful for the contributions of talented educators like Dr Davies.”
