21/12/2018

Entrepreneurial students from the University of Wolverhampton have raised more than £11,000 for local charities as part of a business module.

More than 35 groups of students from the Faculty of Social Sciences joined forces to organise events and activities for four local charities.

The students planned, marketed and organised events over a six-week period including a pub quiz, a fancy dress walk up the Wrekin, an open mic event and a sponsored car wash.

Other groups made hand-made Christmas cards and bracelets.

A total of £ £11,293 was raised for The Haven Wolverhampton, Compton Care, Blood Bikes Staffordshire and Shropshire and Promise Dreams.

Katie Walker, who is studying BA (Hons) International Hospitality Management, said: “We worked on our team building skills and team work, communicating together to work out what were the best options. We also worked on where we fit within a group and who takes the lead, as well as networking with other businesses and members of the community.”

BA (Hons) Business and Marketing Management student James Davies and his team raised £945 for The Haven Wolverhampton by organising five events. He said: “We learnt how to work in a team a lot better and how to be entrepreneurial and innovative within fundraising activities.”
