A University of Wolverhampton student has been named as one of 50 young trailblazers for the marketing industry.

The Founding 50 are a group of 50 marketers aged under 30 who are collaborating with the School of Marketing to change the perception of marketing among young people across the UK.

Elliot Rushton, from Stafford, is currently studying for a MSc in Marketing Management at the University of Wolverhampton alongside working as a Marketing Co-ordinator for Lift Truck Services.

The 21-year-old answered the call to become an ambassador for the industry, which will involve going into schools during 2019 to raise awareness and understanding of marketing as a career.

Elliot, who graduated with a BA (Hons) in Business Management (Marketing) in September, said: “I’ve been in marketing for the past two and a half years and got the role after leaving a sales adviser role.

“I was inspired to get into marketing by my lecturers and through a module at University where I had to organise and market a charity event. Plus it’s an ever-changing industry with new developments happening all the time so you are constantly learning and being kept on your toes.

“I think we need to broaden the understanding that school children have of marketing in that it goes beyond what you see online or on TV, and because of the breadth of marketing you are not restricted to one avenue.”

Sarah Williams, Head of the Department of Marketing, Enterprise and Leisure at the University, said: “Elliot is an excellent student and we’re delighted that he is one of the Founding 50. The aim of the project is for young marketers to talk to school children about how exciting, creative and dynamic Marketing can be as a career and Elliot is perfectly placed to do this.”
