Student selected for Junior European Judo Championships

A talented student from the University of Wolverhampton has been selected for the 2018 Junior (U21) European Judo Championships.

Acelya Toprak will take part in the championships in Sofia, Bulgaria from 13 – 16 September 2018.

 

Acelya, who is studying for a BSc (Hons) in Sport and Exercise Science, competes in the -57kg category.

The 20-year-old goes in as the current Junior European silver medallist, having reached the final in Maribor, Slovenia last year.

In 2018, Acelya, who is based at the British Judo Centre of Excellence at the Walsall Campus, has continued to medal on the international stage with gold at the Paks Junior European Cup and silver at the Lignano Junior European Cup.

Her performances at Junior European Cups have seen her retain her place in the top ten at -57kg on the IJF Junior World ranking list.

Toprak is part of the nine-strong team selected by British Judo and will fight on Friday 14 September 2018.
