GRADUATION CASE STUDY: KAMILAH HALLIDAY

14/09/2017

A talented Video and Film Production graduate went the distance as part of her degree by snapping up an internship in Malta.

Kamilah Halliday applied for an internship through the Santander Universities bursary scheme to gain work experience during the summer break last year.

The 26-year-old worked for Paragon Europe for a two month period alongside fellow student Ravi Kumar. The pair were tasked with designing, creating and filming a video to promote the Santander work placement scheme.

Kamilah, from Quinton, Birmingham, said: “The internship was really valuable in terms of scoping out a real-life business project – we had to do a lot of research, come up with costings and liaise with our client.  It was great to put some of what we had learned on our course into practice.

“It’s my ambition to work abroad and make travel videos and this internship gave me a glimpse into how that might transfer into a career.”‌

The budding film-maker chose to study at Wolverhampton because it was close to home and she had heard positive things about the University and its Faculty of Arts.

She says: “I wanted to do this degree as I had a keen interest in storytelling and film production. I liked that the degree was practical and wanted to develop the necessary skills and knowledge to become a part of the industry.”

Kamilah recognised the importance of gaining lots of practical experience for her portfolio, although managing her time between University work and outside projects was sometimes a challenge. However she managed this very well gaining a 2:1 in BA (Hons) Video and Film Production.

Her future ambitions include being able to make video content whilst also being able to travel and to be a part of something that will make a positive difference.

She adds: “Overall I have enjoyed my time at the University of Wolverhampton. I have had the opportunity to learn and practice skills in different areas of film production, learning a lot about myself and others in the process and am looking forward to journey ahead.”
