University to host major Cyberpsychology and Cybertherapy event

Experts in cyberpsychology, cybertherapy and social networking will attend an international conference hosted by the University of Wolverhampton.

Topics such as cyberbullying, apps for kids, cybercrime, robotics and the social implications of Facebook and Twitter are all set to be discussed at the event.

The 22nd annual Cyberpsychology, Cybertherapy and Social Networking Conference (CYPSY22) will take place at the City Campus from June 26-28.

The conference is an international event and has previously been held in Dublin, San Diego, Washington DC and Brussels. The event is aimed at researchers, clinicians, policymakers and funding agents to share and discuss advancements in the growing disciplines of Cybertherapy and Cyberpsychology.

Other topics to be discussed include virtual reality, wearable computing, video-gaming, health applications of technology, cybersecurity and technology for education.

Around 160 delegates are expected to attend from around the world, including experts in the field from the UK, the Netherlands, USA, Canada, Germany, Italy, Australia, Serbia, Norway, Russia, Brazil, South Korea, France, Hong Kong, Mexico and South Africa.

Dr Chris Fullwood, Reader in Cyberpsychology at the University of Wolverhampton, said: “It is a real privilege and honour to be hosting a conference as highly regarded as CYPSY22. We expect a captivating blend of topics and some healthy debate on important issues around the role of technology in healthcare and the broader psychological implications of human interaction with the Internet and new and emerging technologies.”

The event is jointly organised by the Interactive Media Institute in collaboration with the University of Wolverhampton, and Cyberpsychology Research at the University of Wolverhampton (CRUW), the Virtual Reality Medical Institute and the International Association of CyberPsychology, Training, & Rehabilitation (iACToR).

The University of Wolverhampton is also launching a new MSc in Cyberpsychology, which starts in October 2017.
