University announces plans for new Stafford centre

The University of Wolverhampton has announced plans to open a new education centre in Stafford town centre.

A lease has been agreed by the University with Staffordshire County Council for the space in 2a Staffordshire Place.

The University plans to create a new learning centre on the ground floor of the premises, made up of two teaching rooms, social learning and meeting spaces.

The centre will offer information, advice and guidance on all aspects of Higher Education including higher and degree apprenticeships, courses and qualifications and will offer a range of short and taster courses alongside a fuller range of courses from September 2017.

Plans have been submitted to the authority for a change of use for the current space to allow it to be used for education purposes.

The University announced last autumn that it planned to relocate from its current Stafford town centre base in Shire Hall to alternate more suitable premises.

Will Foster, the University’s Dean of Staffordshire, said: “We’re very excited to be able to secure such a fantastic space right in the heart of Stafford.

“When the University made the decision to leave Shire Hall we were absolutely committed to finding a location within Stafford from which to operate and retain a strong presence.

“Staffordshire Place is a fantastic development and the new premises are better suited for the University’s needs and most importantly, the delivery of courses.

“Hopefully, if plans are approved, we will be ready to open the doors to the new centre in the summer and will launch a range of courses from Stafford during the next academic year.

“We have been very well received since our arrival in Stafford and have built up strong relationships with key partners and businesses in that time and are delighted to have secured our place here.”

The new centre aims to offer courses, advice and guidance and business support. Staffordshire Place houses Staffordshire County Council and the town’s library.
