Innovative work of special educational needs teachers to be celebrated

06/02/2017

A major event to share best practice among teachers working with children with special educational needs and disabilities is to be hosted by the University of Wolverhampton.

#ResearchSEND will take place at the University’s Walsall Campus on Saturday, 11 February 2017.

The event, organised in partnership with Entrust, is the first of kind and will feature key opinion leaders who are driving national debates on good practice in SEND and inclusion.

Leading experts in the field will also contribute to the debate on teachers as researchers and its practical application back in the classroom.

The event from 9.30am-3pm is aimed at SEND practitioners, school leadership teams, headteachers and deputy headteachers.

Professor Michelle Lowe, Director of Education at the University, said: “The Institute of Education is delighted to be hosting #ResearchSEND. There is a huge amount of positive and engaging work in schools to support and nurture children with special educational needs and disabilities and this is a great opportunity to celebrate the teachers and other staff who support them. The event is aimed at SEND practitioners, teachers and school leaders, and will provide an opportunity to hear how research by teachers can feed back into the classroom environment.”

Sharon Kelly, Director of Education Services at Entrust, said “We are proud of our partnership with the University and our wider role in helping to deliver education and skills support services to Local Authorities, early years settings, maintained schools and academies across the UK. Teachers are unsung heroes and we are privileged to be able to support their recognition and help to highlight the amazing work they are doing.”
