Prize winning lecturer awarded Honorary Degree

A prize winning lecturer has received an Honorary Degree from the University of Wolverhampton.
Paul Lister, previously Head of School of Engineering at the University of Wolverhampton, received his award from the Faculty of Science and Engineering at a graduation ceremony recently held at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre.
The Honorary Fellowship was presented in recognition of Paul’s contribution to science and engineering during his career.
Paul, who recently retired from the University, said: “I feel both honoured and privileged to receive this award, and working with colleagues in developing new facilities and courses for the School of Engineering proved to be one of the most rewarding aspects of my career.”
In 1990, Paul Lister became a senior lecturer at the University of Wolverhampton. He was promoted to Principal Lecturer and Head of Engineering in 2000 and then to Associate Dean one year later, a role which included responsibility for quality and academic standards.
He has since undertaken a number of expanded roles, including time spent with Education Partnerships and a lead role in a Quality Assurance Audit. During his time at the University, Paul championed the £12 million investment in science and engineering which has seen the redevelopment of the Roslyn Franklin Building in Wolverhampton and the Telford Innovation Campus.
Paul is a Bachelor of Science (Honours) Mechanical Engineering graduate of the University. In 1983, he undertook his PhD at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, and was awarded the H. Baker Prize and the F. Koenigsburger Award for his research. From 1987 to 1990, at Brunel University in Middlesex, he developed computer software models for manufacturing process optimization in the aerospace industry.
Paul retired from the University in 2016. He now spends time pursuing his interests in paleoanthropology and music. He is married to Rachel and they have three children: Tabatha, Sophie and Katie.
