Art gallery exhibits the work of student ‘masters’

27/09/2016

University of Wolverhampton School of Art students will be showcasing their work at Wolverhampton Art Gallery - putting on a master display of talent.

Over 50 students studying for Master’s degrees in Fine Art, Applied Arts and Digital and Visual Communication – as well as the University’s artists in residence – will be exhibiting work from Saturday 1st October until Monday 10th October.  The show is free and open to anyone.

The diverse Art Show, which offers a wide range of creative work from local, national and international students, covers painting, sculpture, glass, ceramics, installations, graphics, photography, illustration, audio-visual and multi-media.

Sam Hope, Head of the Wolverhampton School of Art, said: “This year we again present another creative and dynamic show from our three popular Master’s courses, with a range of multi-disciplinary being exhibited in a wonderful public gallery that features 300 years of art.

“Full-time and part-time students have come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences to contribute to the debates and extend their individual practices, with a good proportion of international students offering enriched cultural understandings of art and design.

“Our staff are all experienced researchers and/or professional designers and artists in their own right, who have shared their knowledge and expertise with students to deliver exciting and challenging opportunities for learning.  The result of their valuable input is clear in the high standard of student work on show this year.”

Mirco Monsees, 24 from Bremen, Germany, who studied for a Master’s in Digital & Visual Communications, said: “My Master’s project is a series of posters showcasing a custom typeface that brings a cohesive aesthetic to eight of the most spoken languages in the world.  It‘s my way of exploring different writing systems and saying hello to 2.9 billion people.

“The self-directed nature of the MA program has helped me explore my own skill-set and focus, to gain a deeper understanding of my creative approach. I would love to work at a traditional design firm with a focus on branding that promotes excellence as well as experimentation, and I’m confident that my education has prepared me for any challenges the job might throw at me.”
