Animation graduate is nothing short of a winner!
A University of Wolverhampton Animation graduate has won a prestigious Award of Merit in an international film competition.
Eldritch Knight, 41, from West Bromwich, was presented with the award by The Best Shorts Film Competition for his exciting Animation, Ribbons, which expresses an abstract combination of movement and music, initially inspired by ribbon gymnastics.
The Best Shorts Competition, which is in its fifth year, is a worldwide competition which recognises film, television, videography and new media professionals who demonstrate exceptional achievement in craft and creativity, and those who produce standout entertainment or contribute to profound social change.
Entries are judged by highly qualified professionals in the film and television industry.
Eldritch said: “I created Ribbons as an expression of movement and music with the hope that the viewer would watch the animation and interpret the film’s themes and meaning using their own imagination.
“In making the film I ultimately set out to challenge and stretch my skills so that I had a broader knowledge of how to animate. I am currently working on the development of another short animated film that will run alongside my studies for a Masters Degree in Animation at University of Wolverhampton."
Rick Prickett, who chairs The Best Shorts Competition, said: “Best Shorts is not an easy award to win. Entries are received from around the world from powerhouse companies to remarkable new talent. The Best Shorts Competition helps set the standard for craft and creativity. The judges were pleased with the exceptional high quality of entries.”
In addition to the award, Ribbons has also been accepted by the Utopia Film Festival and will be screened in Greenbelt, Maryland, USA between 21st and 23rd October 2016 as well as being accepted for official selection by the 3rd International Coventry Film Festival to be screened between 10th and 12th October 2016.
