Vice-Chancellor to highlight research challenges and changes

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wolverhampton will highlight changes and challenges in academic research at a public lecture next week.

Professor Geoff Layer will be giving a lecture entitled 'Research in UK Higher Education: The Challenges and Opportunities' on Thursday, 10 November 2016.

He will discuss important recent changes in the Higher Education sector that will have a significant impact on UK research, including the Higher Education and Research Bill.

The lecture from 5-7pm will cover plans to establish the UK Research and Innovation, the July 2016 Stern Review and the impact on Research Excellence Framework funding, as well as considering the potential impact of Brexit.

Professor Layer is a member of the Black Country Local Economic Partnership, a board member of several bodies including the Black Country Chamber of Commerce and the Higher Education Academy. He was awarded the OBE for services to Higher Education in 2003.

The lecture is open to the general public as well as staff and students at the University of Wolverhampton and will be followed by a drinks reception. The event will take place in the Chancellor's Hall in the Wulfruna Building at the University.
