Lecture about Labour’s ‘greatest leader’

The Labour Party’s greatest leader will be the focus of a free public lecture at the University of Wolverhampton.

The lecture about Clement Attlee will take place on Thursday, 1 December 2016 in room MU306 at the Wolverhampton City Campus.

The event from 1-2pm will be presented by Professor John Bew from King’s College, London and no ticket is required to attend.

Chair in Security Studies, Professor George Kassimeris, said: “John Bew’s lecture will be about one man – Clement Attlee, Labour Party’s greatest  leader and the prime minister who made the Party what it was in its glory days. 

“Based on John Bew’s newly published biography of Attlee, the lecture will explore the intellectual foundations and core belief of one of the most important figures in 20^th Century Britain and will reveal a public servant and a patriotic socialist who never lost sight of the national interest and whose view of humanity and belief in solidarity was grafted onto the Union Jack.”  

John Bew is Professor of History and Foreign Policy at King's College London and has been described as the "leading British historian of a generation". Having begun his career at Cambridge University, John was awarded the 2015 Philip Leverhulme Prize for International Studies and in 2013-4 became the youngest ever holder of the Henry A. Kissinger Chair in Foreign Policy at the Library of Congress in Washington DC.  He is a contributing writer at the New Statesman and an experienced radio and television broadcaster.

The author will be signing copies of his book after the talk.
