Conference to discuss dying well

16/11/2016

Leading experts in palliative and end of life care are to attend an interfaith conference in Wolverhampton.

The Dying Well conference will take place on Saturday 19th November 2016 and is organised by Interfaith Wolverhampton (IFW) in collaboration with the University of Wolverhampton and Compton Hospice.

There will be an introduction by President of the IFW, the Bishop of Wolverhampton, the Right Reverend Clive Gregory, and there will be insights from a Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh and Buddhist perspective.

The event, from 9.30am-2.30pm, will feature a keynote speech by Baroness Finlay of Llandaff, who is Professor of Palliative Medicine, Cardiff University and Lead Palliative Care Clinician (Wales).

Magi Sque, Professor of Clinical Practice and Innovation at the University of Wolverhampton and Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, will also speak about the Swan model of end of life and bereavement care, which was introduced at the RWT in spring 2015.

The conference will take place in the Chancellor’s Hall in the Wulfruna Building, University of Wolverhampton.

Bishop Gregory said: “Dying well is a subject of great topical interest but also one on which our major faith traditions have been reflecting for centuries. I am looking forward to this conference which will bring together contemporary medical expertise and insights from religious traditions to enrich our understanding of what might enable and constitute a good death and a supported bereavement.”
