A local Shropshire woman has been appointed Head of Apprenticeships by the University of Wolverhampton.

Michele Roberts will head up the new Apprenticeship Hub, the former Four Feathers pub on Molineux Street, when the £500,000 project - which includes funding of over £200,000 from the Black Country Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) - officially opens in the summer.

With a Masters degree in Business Administration, Michele has worked for the Skills Funding Agency, the National Apprenticeship Service and the Learning and Skills Council.  With a wealth of knowledge on delivering apprenticeship programmes, rolling out National Skills Academies and securing funding for employability projects, Michele has over 25 years’ experience working for business, training and skills providers in the region.

New Head of Apprenticeships appointed for the Apprentice Hub.

Jackie Dunne, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Access and Lifelong Learning) at the University of Wolverhampton, said: “The University is committed to working with employers and other partners to increase access to degree level apprenticeships across the Black Country and beyond. This will provide fantastic opportunities for individuals who wish to gain a degree whilst working and is also an important vehicle for creating employment and economic growth in the region. We are really pleased to have appointed Michele to help us drive this agenda.”

Michele said: “The new Apprenticeship Hub will provide a centre of knowledge and expertise for apprenticeships which will be the University’s focal point for potential apprentices, employers and learning providers, offering clear and integrated progression routes. This is an exciting venture for the University and will be an important contributor to continued economic growth in the region.”

Michele starts in her role on Monday 9th May 2016 and will be based in the Apprenticeship Hub.
