Artsfest stages a festival of creativity across the region

For the second year running, the University of Wolverhampton is staging its seven week festival across Wolverhampton, Walsall and Stafford in celebration of the arts.

Artsfest is produced by the University’s Faculty of Arts students and staff in collaboration with over 20 arts organisations and venues and will see over 100 events staged covering music, dance, theatre, literature, film, art and design.

A variety of events and workshops are on offer including joining a craft group to create a woolly map of Wolverhampton.  People are invited to come along and knit a piece of the city and the map will be installed on International Yarn Bomb Day in June.

As well as theatre productions, art and photography exhibitions, film screenings and fashion shows, there will be an organ recital in Walsall Town Hall, workshops on how to make carnival and animal masks and visitors can even design a hat at Walsall Art Gallery for a future job.  The film, Thelma and Louise, celebrates 25 years with a special screening at the Lighthouse and the Baby Palace offers new parents or carers the chance to relax in a multi-sensory environment.

Artsfest Co-ordinator Fran Richards said: “Artsfest is a wonderful opportunity for people to see students’ work being showcased alongside professional work. It’s also a great time for cultural venues across the region to join together under the Artsfest banner and celebrate what the region has to offer in terms of creativity.”

The festival celebration runs throughout May until 24th June 2016 and over half of the events are free and a third of them under £10. Full details of events can be found on the website:
