Business networking event showcases partnership working

Staff and students from the University of Wolverhampton hosted the first Walsall Business Week recently at its Walsall Campus – aiming to increase business engagement across the borough.

The University partnered with Walsall Council, the Black Country Chamber of Commerce, Gone Fishing 4 Business, the Best of Walsall business networks and the Black Country Growth Hub to host business related themed activities delivered over a five day period.

Almost 400 people attended the networking event which included a women’s panel debate hosted by the University’s Faculty of Education, Health and Wellbeing, a demonstration of drone technology provided by its Business Solutions department and a state-of-the-art car showcased by Mercedes Benz Walsall.

Bernadette Shenton, Business Development Manager at the University of Wolverhampton, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for students studying business and creative courses to get hands-on experience of hosting a business networking event. They were instrumental in organising, setting up and hosting the activities and did a tremendous job.

“Other University teams including Estates, Catering, Business Solutions, Procurement and Careers and Enterprise and the new Apprenticeship Hub were all on hand to facilitate and contribute to the activities, really showcasing what we have to offer in the Black Country in terms of our contribution to the local economy.”

Pushpa Alexander, Director, Headz Up Business, said:  “The event was an amazing success and went above and beyond our expectations.  The attention to detail was refreshing and lots of delegates made new contacts and secured new business contracts.”
