University of Wolverhampton Faculty of Arts & Engineering students will be putting on a retro show in the 1950s Vintage Village at this year’s RAF Cosford Air Show.

The University is a key sponsor of the event on Sunday 19th June which attracts more than 55,000 people every year.

Each of the University’s four faculties will be represented in the 1950s Vintage Village. Experts from the War Studies department will be on hand to give an insight into The Battle of the Somme 100 years on and staff and students from nursing and education will provide an insight into 1950s medicine and classrooms.

Musicians from the University’s Faculty of Arts will be performing on stage alongside other 50s acts and Courtney Hurcombe, studying Popular Music, will be providing some harmonised hits with her new band, Slick Backs.

The University of Wolverhampton (UWR) Race Team will be showcasing its Morgan Plus 4 Babydoll racing car which is based on a 1950s design – showing how engineering has evolved over the past half a century.  Photography students will be displaying 50s style images and fashion and textiles students will be highlighting vintage clothing styles.

“Heritage is very important to the Black Country and its surrounding regions and it will be interesting for visitors to see how far we’ve come since the 1950s!”

Based on the theme of speed, this year’s RAF Cosford Air Show will be displaying fast jets, helicopters and historic aircraft and the University will be showcasing its Formula Renault car where students from the Race Team will be firing up the engine in the Speed Hangar.
