Former law student scoops top legal award

Former University of Wolverhampton law student, Inez Brown, has scooped the Partner of the Year award in the Birmingham Law Society Legal Awards held recently.

Inez, from Handsworth Wood, studied part-time for her law qualifications at the University and is now a Partner with Medical Accident Group, the clinical negligence specialists and sister company of Harrison Clark Rickerbys.

She received her award at the prestigious awards ceremony attended by more than 500 people and hosted by writer, broadcaster and former MP, Gyles Brandreth.

Inez said: “I’m thrilled to have won this award, especially in the face of stiff competition. It is a real honour to have my work acknowledged in this way and it is also a tribute to my team and our dedication to helping those who have suffered life-changing injuries or illnesses.

Law graduate Inez Brown picks up an award at Birmingham Legal Awards 2016.

“I spent 6 years at the University of Wolverhampton as a part-time student where I studied the LLB (Hons) Law Degree together with the Legal Practice Course.  The lecturers were extremely supportive and the lectures were of a very high standard.  Studying on a part-time basis can be really stressful but so much additional support and encouragement was provided by both lecturers and students.

“I have really fond memories of my time at the University and would highly recommend it to anyone wishing to obtain a degree or post graduate degree.  I owe my success to the University who helped me obtain an LLB (Hons) degree and post graduate course as a mature student.  If I can do it, anyone can!”

Inez has led the team at Medical Accident Group since 2012 and has a national reputation for the quality and scope of her work, acknowledged as a leader in her field.

Sukhninder Panesar, Head of the Law School at the University of Wolverhampton, said: “It’s wonderful to see how much our students can achieve once they have graduated and even more rewarding to see them recognised by their industries and peers in this way.

“This is a testament of the quality teaching and learning provision and support provided by all colleagues at the University of Wolverhampton Law School.  We take pride in adding value to our students’ studies that can lead to their performing at their best.

“Inez is an amazing role-model for students studying law with us. She is a great example of someone who has achieved her career aspirations and I’m sure that our current students will be inspired by her success.”

The University of Wolverhampton Law School was one of the sponsors of the Birmingham Law Society Legal Awards where former employee, Bernadette Griffin, also received a lifetime achievement award for her contribution to the legal profession over the past 30 years.
