Ceramics lecturer fired up about election to international academy

01/12/2016

David Jones, Senior Lecturer in Ceramics at the University of Wolverhampton, has been elected to the Council of International Academy of Ceramics (IAC).

The Academy is the only association devoted to the medium of clay that functions on an international level. IAC combines ceramists, potters, artists, designers, authors, collectors, gallerists, conservators, restorers’, curators as well as a panel of prestigious institutions.

Thanks to their respective forms of expertise, members of IAC are regularly invited to participate in Congresses, residencies, to submit articles for publication as well as being asked to jury international exhibitions and competitions.

David, who works in the Faculty of Arts in the Wolverhampton School of Art, said: “I’m delighted to have been elected to the Council of International Academy of Ceramics. There is a very stringent election process in place whereby three existing members have to propose you with letters of support.  I’ve been a member myself for ten years so it’s wonderful to be recognised in this way.

“The role will allow me to keep up to date with the appropriate use of ceramics across the world in relation to new developments in ceramics as well as providing me with networking opportunities which will help to inform and shape our own curriculum at the university.”

David is currently exhibiting at the Jewish Museum in London and will be demonstrating his process and discussing 'A Language of Ceramics to Express Jewish Identity'. This event is one of a series of demonstrations by artists featured in the exhibition 'Shaping Ceramics: From Lucie Rie to Edmund de Waal'.

He has been a Senior Lecturer in the Applied Arts Department at the University of Wolverhampton for twenty five years. He teaches on the undergraduate programme and also tutors postgraduate students in ceramics. He is also a Fellow of the Crafts Potter Association of England.
